ਆਇਆ ਮਰਣੁ ਧੁਰਾਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਈਐ ॥

aaeiaa maran dhhuraahu houmai roeeai ||
|
Death is ordained from the very beginning, and yet ego makes us cry.
|
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਈਐ ॥੧॥
|
guramukh naam dhhiaae asathhir hoeeai ||1||
|
Meditating on the Naam, as Gurmukh, one becomes stable and steady. ||1||
|
|
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਚਲਣੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
|
gur poorae saabaas chalan jaaniaa ||
|
Blessed is the Perfect Guru, through whom the way of Death is known.
|
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
|
laahaa naam s saar sabadh samaaniaa ||1|| rehaao ||
|
The sublime people earn the profit of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they are absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||

|
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਡੇਹ ਸਿ ਆਏ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
|
poorab likhae ddaeh s aaeae maaeiaa ||
|
The days of one's life are pre-ordained; they will come to their end, O mother.
|
|
ਚਲਣੁ ਅਜੁ ਕਿ ਕਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
|
chalan aj k kalih dhhurahu furamaaeiaa ||2||
|
One must depart, today or tomorrow, according to the Lord's Primal Order. ||2||
|
|
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
|
birathhaa janam thinaa jinhee naam visaariaa ||
|
Useless are the lives of those, who have forgotten the Naam.
|
|
ਜੂਐ ਖੇਲਣੁ ਜਗਿ ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
|
jooai khaelan jag k eihu man haariaa ||3||
|
They play the game of chance in this world, and lose their mind. ||3||
|
|
ਜੀਵਣਿ ਮਰਣਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
|
jeevan maran sukh hoe jinhaa gur paaeiaa ||
|
Those who have found the Guru are at peace, in life and in death.
|
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੬੪॥
|
naanak sachae sach sach samaaeiaa ||4||12||64||
|
O Nanak, the true ones are truly absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||12||64||

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

janam padhaarathh paae naam dhhiaaeiaa ||
|
Having obtained the treasure of this human birth, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
|
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
|
gur parasaadhee bujh sach samaaeiaa ||1||
|
By Guru's Grace, I understand, and I am absorbed into the True Lord. ||1||
|
|
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
|
jinh dhhur likhiaa laekh thinhee naam kamaaeiaa ||
|
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny practice the Naam.
|
|
ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
|
dhar sachai sachiaar mehal bulaaeiaa ||1|| rehaao ||
|
The True Lord summons the truthful to the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||Pause||
|
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
|
anthar naam nidhhaan guramukh paaeeai ||
|
Deep within is the treasure of the Naam; it is obtained by the Gurmukh.
|
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
|
anadhin naam dhhiaae har gun gaaeeai ||2||
|
Night and day, meditate on the Naam, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
|
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
|
anthar vasath anaek manamukh nehee paaeeai ||
|
Deep within are infinite substances, but the self-willed manmukh does not find them.
|
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥੩॥
|
houmai garabai garab aap khuaaeeai ||3||
|
In egotism and pride, the mortal's proud self consumes him. ||3||
|
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥
|
naanak aapae aap aap khuaaeeai ||
|
O Nanak, his identity consumes his identical identity.
|

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੬੫॥

Through the Guru's Teachings, the mind is illumined, and meets the True Lord. ||4||13||65||

ਹਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਉ ॥

ho anadhin har naam keerathan karo ||
|
Night and day, I sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Name of the Lord.
|

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sathigur mo ko har naam bathaaeiaa ho har bin khin pal rehi n sako ||1|| rehaao ||
|
The True Guru has revealed to me the Name of the Lord; without the Lord, I cannot live, for a moment, even an instant. ||1||Pause||

ਹਮਰੈ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਉ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ॥

hamarai sravan simaran har keerathan ho har bin rehi n sako ho eik khin ||
|
My ears hear the Lord's Kirtan, and I contemplate Him; without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant.
|

ਜੈਸੇ ਹੰਸੁ ਸਰਵਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ॥੧॥

jaisae hans saravar bin rehi n sakai thaisae har jan kio rehai har saevaa bin ||1||
|
As the swan cannot live without the lake, how can the Lord's slave live without serving Him? ||1||
|

ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਰਿਦ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਮੋਹ ਅਪਮਾਨ ॥

kinehoon preeth laaee dhoojaa bhaao ridh dhhaar kinehoon preeth laaee moh apamaan ||
|
Some enshrine love for duality in their hearts, and some pledge love for worldly attachments and ego.
|
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੬੬॥

har jan preeth laaee har nirabaan padh naanak simarath har har bhagavaan ||2||14||66||
|
The Lord's servant embraces love for the Lord and the state of Nirvaanaa; Nanak contemplates the Lord, the Lord God. ||2||14||66||

ਮਾਈ ਮੋਰੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

maaee moro preetham raam bathaavahu ree maaee ||
|
O mother, my mother, tell me about my Beloved Lord.
|
|
ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਰਹਲੁ ਬੇਲਿ ਰੀਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ho har bin khin pal rehi n sako jaisae karehal bael reejhaaee ||1|| rehaao ||
|
Without the Lord, I cannot live for a moment, even an instant; I love Him, like the camel loves the vine. ||1||Pause||

ਹਮਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਬਿਰਕਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਮੀਤ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
|
hamaraa man bairaag birakath bhaeiou har dharasan meeth kai thaaee ||
|
My mind has become sad and distant, longing for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my Friend.
|
|
ਜੈਸੇ ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

jaisae al kamalaa bin rehi n sakai thaisae mohi har bin rehan n jaaee ||1||
|
As the bumblebee cannot live without the lotus, I cannot live without the Lord. ||1||
