ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਣ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥

jo lag jeeo paraan sach dhhiaaeeai ||

As long as there is the breath of life, meditate on the True Lord.

ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
|
laahaa har gun gaae milai sukh paaeeai ||1|| rehaao ||
|
You shall receive the profit of singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and find peace. ||1||Pause||

ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੂੰ ॥
|
sachee thaeree kaar dhaehi dhaeiaal thoon ||
|
True is Your Service; bless me with it, O Merciful Lord.
|
|
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨॥
|
ho jeevaa thudhh saalaahi mai ttaek adhhaar thoon ||2||
|
I live by praising You; You are my Anchor and Support. ||2||
|
|
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਰਵਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹੀ ॥
|
dhar saevak dharavaan dharadh thoon jaanehee ||
|
I am Your servant, the gate-keeper at Your Gate; You alone know my pain.
|
|
ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੀ ॥੩॥
|
bhagath thaeree hairaan dharadh gavaavehee ||3||
|
How wonderful is Your devotional worship! It removes all pains. ||3||
|
|
ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਸੀ ॥
|
dharageh naam hadhoor guramukh jaanasee ||
|
The Gurmukhs know that by chanting the Naam, they shall dwell in His Court, in His Presence.
|
|
ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਸੀ ॥੪॥
|
vaelaa sach paravaan sabadh pashhaanasee ||4||
|
True and acceptable is that time, when one recognizes the Word of the Shabad. ||4||
|
|
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਇ ॥
|
sath santhokh kar bhaao thosaa har naam saee ||
|
Those who practice Truth, contentment and love, obtain the supplies of the Lord's Name.
|
|
ਮਨਹੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ॥੫॥
|
manahu shhodd vikaar sachaa sach dhaee ||5||
|
So banish corruption from your mind, and the True One will grant you Truth. ||5||
|
|
ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
|
sachae sachaa naehu sachai laaeiaa ||
|
The True Lord inspires true love in the truthful.
|
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
|
aapae karae niaao jo this bhaaeiaa ||6||
|
He Himself administers justice, as it pleases His Will. ||6||
|
|
ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ॥
|
sachae sachee dhaath dhaehi dhaeiaal hai ||
|
True is the gift of the True, Compassionate Lord.
|
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
|
this saevee dhin raath naam amol hai ||7||
|
Day and night, I serve the One whose Name is priceless. ||7||
|
|
ਤੂੰ ਉਤਮੁ ਹਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਆ ॥
|
thoon outham ho neech saevak kaandteeaa ||
|
You are so sublime, and I am so lowly, but I am called Your slave.
|
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਂਢੀਆ ॥੮॥੨੧॥

naanak nadhar karaehu milai sach vaandteeaa ||8||21||

Please, shower Nanak with Your Glance of Grace, that he, the separated one, may merge with You again, O Lord. ||8||21||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

aavan jaanaa kio rehai kio maelaa hoee ||
|
How can coming and going, the cycle of reincarnation be ended? And how can one meet the Lord?
|
|
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੋਈ ॥੧॥
|
janam maran kaa dhukh ghano nith sehasaa dhoee ||1||
|
The pain of birth and death is so great, in constant skepticism and duality. ||1||
|
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਫਿਟੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
|
bin naavai kiaa jeevanaa fitt dhhrig chathuraaee ||
|
Without the Name, what is life? Cleverness is detestable and cursed.
|

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
|
sathigur saadhh n saeviaa har bhagath n bhaaee ||1|| rehaao ||
|
One who does not serve the Holy True Guru, is not pleased by devotion to the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|

ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
|
aavan jaavan tho rehai paaeeai gur pooraa ||
|
Coming and going is ended only when one finds the True Guru.
|
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
|
raam naam dhhan raas dhaee binasai bhram kooraa ||2||
|
He gives the wealth and capital of the Lord's Name, and false doubt is destroyed. ||2||
|

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥
|
santh janaa ko mil rehai dhhan dhhan jas gaaeae ||
|
Joining the humble Saintly beings, let us sing the blessed, blessed Praises of the Lord.

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
|
aadh purakh aparanparaa guramukh har paaeae ||3||
|
The Primal Lord, the Infinite, is obtained by the Gurmukh. ||3||
|
|
ਨਟੂਐ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
|
nattooai saang banaaeiaa baajee sansaaraa ||
|
The drama of the world is staged like the show of a buffoon.
|
|
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਉਝਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
|
khin pal baajee dhaekheeai oujharath nehee baaraa ||4||
|
For an instant, for a moment, the show is seen, but it disappears in no time at all. ||4||
|
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲਣਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
|
houmai chouparr khaelanaa jhoothae ahankaaraa ||
|
The game of chance is played on the board of egotism, with the pieces of falsehood and ego.
|
|
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
|
sabh jag haarai so jinai gur sabadh veechaaraa ||5||
|
The whole world loses; he alone wins, who reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||5||
|
|
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
|
jio andhhulai hathh ttohanee har naam hamaarai ||
|
As is the cane in the hand of the blind man, so is the Lord's Name for me.
|
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਉਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੬॥
|
raam naam har ttaek hai nis dhouth savaarai ||6||
|
The Lord's Name is my Support, night and day and morning. ||6||
|
|
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
|
jio thoon raakhehi thio rehaa har naam adhhaaraa ||
|
As You keep me, Lord, I live; the Lord's Name is my only Support.
|
|
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥
|
anth sakhaaee paaeiaa jan mukath dhuaaraa ||7||
|
It is my only comfort in the end; the gate of salvation is found by His humble servants. ||7||
|
|
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
|
janam maran dhukh maettiaa jap naam muraarae ||
|
The pain of birth and death is removed, by chanting and meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
|
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨੨॥
|
naanak naam n veesarai pooraa gur thaarae ||8||22||
|
O Nanak, one who does not forget the Naam, is saved by the Perfect Guru. ||8||22||

saasath baedh sinmrith sar thaeraa surasaree charan samaanee ||

The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees are contained in the ocean of Your Name; the River Ganges is held in Your Feet.

ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
|
saakhaa theen mool math raavai thoon thaan sarab viddaanee ||1||
|
The intellect can understand the world of the three modes, but You, O Primal Lord, are totally astounding. ||1||

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Servant Nanak meditates on His Feet, and chants the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. ||1||Pause||

ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥

thaethees karorree dhaas thumhaarae ridhh sidhh praan adhhaaree ||
|
Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. You bestow wealth, and the supernatural powers of the Siddhas; You are the Support of the breath of life.
