ਨਾਮੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Through the Naam, the fire of desire is extinguished; the Naam is obtained by His Will. ||1||Pause||

ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥

kal keerath sabadh pashhaan ||
|
In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, realize the Word of the Shabad.
|
|
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
|
eaehaa bhagath chookai abhimaan ||
|
By this devotional worship, egotism is eliminated.
|
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
|
sathigur saeviai hovai paravaan ||
|
Serving the True Guru, one becomes approved.
|
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਆਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
|
jin aasaa keethee this no jaan ||2||
|
So know the One, who created hope and desire. ||2||
|
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
|
this kiaa dheejai j sabadh sunaaeae ||
|
What shall we offer to one who proclaims the Word of the Shabad?
|
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
|
kar kirapaa naam mann vasaaeae ||
|
By His Grace, the Naam is enshrined within our minds.
|
|
ਇਹੁ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
|
eihu sir dheejai aap gavaaeae ||
|
Offer your head, and shed your self-conceit.
|
|
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
|
hukamai boojhae sadhaa sukh paaeae ||3||
|
One who understands the Lord's Command finds lasting peace. ||3||
|
|
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
|
aap karae thai aap karaaeae ||
|
He Himself does, and causes others to do.
|
|
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
|
aapae guramukh naam vasaaeae ||
|
He Himself enshrines His Name in the mind of the Gurmukh.
|
|
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
|
aap bhulaavai aap maarag paaeae ||
|
He Himself misleads us, and He Himself puts us back on the Path.
|
|
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
|
sachai sabadh sach samaaeae ||4||
|
Through the True Word of the Shabad, we merge into the True Lord. ||4||
|
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
|
sachaa sabadh sachee hai baanee ||
|
True is the Shabad, and True is the Word of the Lord's Bani.
|
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
|
guramukh jug jug aakh vakhaanee ||
|
In each and every age, the Gurmukhs speak it and chant it.
|
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੋਲਾਣੀ ॥
|
manamukh mohi bharam bholaanee ||
|
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt and attachment.
|
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਉਰਾਣੀ ॥੫॥
|
bin naavai sabh firai bouraanee ||5||
|
Without the Name, everyone wanders around insane. ||5||
|
|
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
|
theen bhavan mehi eaekaa maaeiaa ||
|
Throughout the three worlds, is the one Maya.
|
|
ਮੂਰਖਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
|
moorakh parr parr dhoojaa bhaao dhrirraaeiaa ||
|
The fool reads and reads, but holds tight to duality.
|
|
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
|
bahu karam kamaavai dhukh sabaaeiaa ||
|
He performs all sorts of rituals, but still suffers terrible pain.
|
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
|
sathigur saev sadhaa sukh paaeiaa ||6||
|
Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained. ||6||
|
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
|
anmrith meethaa sabadh veechaar ||
|
Reflective meditation upon the Shabad is such sweet nectar.
|
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਗੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
|
anadhin bhogae houmai maar ||
|
Night and day, one enjoys it, subduing his ego.
|
|
ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
|
sehaj anandh kirapaa dhhaar ||
|
When the Lord showers His Mercy, we enjoy celestial bliss.
|
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੭॥
|
naam rathae sadhaa sach piaar ||7||
|
Imbued with the Naam, love the True Lord forever. ||7||
|
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
|
har jap parreeai gur sabadh veechaar ||
|
Meditate on the Lord, and read and reflect upon the Guru's Shabad.
|
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
|
har jap parreeai houmai maar ||
|
Subdue your ego and meditate on the Lord.
|
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਭਇ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
|
har japeeai bhae sach piaar ||
|
Meditate on the Lord, and be imbued with fear and love of the True One.
|
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥੨੫॥

Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥

gur thae naam paaeeai vaddee vaddiaaee ||1||
|
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1||

ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

eaeko naam chaeth maerae bhaaee ||
|
Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jagath jalandhaa dhaekh kai bhaj peae saranaaee ||1|| rehaao ||

Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
|
gur thae giaan oopajai mehaa thath beechaaraa ||
|
Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru; reflect upon the supreme essence of reality.
|
|
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
|
gur thae ghar dhar paaeiaa bhagathee bharae bhanddaaraa ||2||
|
Through the Guru, the Lord's Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2||
|

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
|
guramukh naam dhhiaaeeai boojhai veechaaraa ||
|
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding.
|
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
|
guramukh bhagath salaah hai anthar sabadh apaaraa ||3||
|
The Gurmukh is the Lord's devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3||
|
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
|
guramukh sookh oopajai dhukh kadhae n hoee ||
|
Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain.
|
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
|
guramukh houmai maareeai man niramal hoee ||4||
|
The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4||
|
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
|
sathigur miliai aap gaeiaa thribhavan sojhee paaee ||
|
Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained.
|
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
|
niramal joth pasar rehee jothee joth milaaee ||5||
|
The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one's light merges into the Light. ||5||
|
|
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥
|
poorai gur samajhaaeiaa math ootham hoee ||
|
The Perfect Guru instructs, and one's intellect becomes sublime.
|
|
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
|
anthar seethal saanth hoe naamae sukh hoee ||6||
|
A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6||
|
|
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
|
pooraa sathigur thaan milai jaan nadhar karaeee ||
|
One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
|
|
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
|
kilavikh paap sabh katteeahi fir dhukh bighan n hoee ||7||
|
All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7||
