Becoming an avid suiter of the form (word) of the Guru and being dead to greed, infatuation and other relational propensities, he should remain alive in the world.

ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸਭੇ ਸਾਕ ਸੁਰੰਗ ਰੰਗੀਵਣਾ।

Prahari Sabhay Saak Surang Rangeevanaa |

Repudiating all worldly connections he must remain dyed in the colour of the Lord.

ਹੋਰ ਨ ਝਖਣੁ ਝਾਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਵਣਾ।

Hor N Jhakhanu Jhaak Sarani Manu Seevanaa |

Seeking no shelter elsewhere he should keep his mind absorbed in the shelterof God, the Guru.

ਪਿਰਮ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪਾਕ ਅਮਿਅ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਣਾ।

Piram Piaalaa Paak Amia Rasu Peevanaa |

Sacred is the cup of the love of the beloved; he should quaff that only.

ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ਅਉਤਾਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਵਣਾ।

Masakeenee Autaak Asadiru Deevanaa |

Making humility his abode he should get poised in it.

ਦਸ ਅਉਰਾਤਿ ਤਲਾਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਅਲੀਵਣਾ।

Das Auraati Talaak Sahaji Aleevanaa |

Divorcing the (tastes of ) ten organs i.e.not being caught in their dragnet, he should attain equipose.

ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਕ ਨ ਮਨ ਭਰਮੀਵਣਾ।

Saavadhan Gur Vaak N Man Bharameevanaa |

He must be fully conscious about the word of Guru and should not allow the mind to be entrapped in delusions.

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਹੁਸਨਾਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੀਵਣਾ ॥੧੯॥

Absorption of consciousness in the Word makes him alert and this way one gets across the Word – ocean.
