ਮਾਰਵਾਰ ਇਕ ਸਾਹੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥

ਅਨਿਕ ਦਰਬੁ ਕੌ ਬਨਿਜ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥

In the country of Marwar a Shah used to live. He dealt with a lot of wealth

ਪੁੰਨ੍ਯ ਦਾਨ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਕਹ ਦੇਈ ॥੧॥

Puaanni Daan Biparn Kaha Deeee ॥1॥

He used to earn by giving money on interest but he also, considerable donated in charities and alms.(1)

ਸੀਲ ਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

Seela Matee Taa Kee Triya Bhaaree ॥

ਸੂਰਜ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

Sooraja Lakhee Na Chaandar Nihaaree ॥

His wife Sheel Manjari was very cool-hearted, she was the embodiment, the Sun and the Moon.

ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਜੀਯੈ ॥

Nrikhi Roopi Niju Pati Ko Jeeyai ॥

ਤਿਹ ਨਿਰਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਨਿ ਨ ਪੀਯੈ ॥੨॥

Tih Nrikhe Binu Paani Na Peeyai ॥2॥

But she lived by adoring her husband, and would not sip water even without his sight. (2)

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Taa Ke Pati Ko Roopi Apaaraa ॥

ਰੀਝਿ ਦਿਯਾ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥

Reejhi Diyaa Taa Ko Kartaaraa ॥

Because her husband was very handsome; he was as if, God’s special creation.

ਉਦੈ ਕਰਨ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਸੁਭ ਨਾਮਾ ॥

Audai Karn Taa Kou Subha Naamaa ॥

ਸੀਲ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਮਾ ॥੩॥

Seela Maanjaree Taa Kee Baamaa ॥3॥

His name was Udhe Karan, whereas wife was known as Sheel Manjari.(3)
