Then the great Dutt, who was a treasure in eighteen sciences and

Seeing his bright and blemishless limbs, the waves of Ganges felt shy

ਲਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਲਾਜਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੨੭੧॥

Looking at his marvelous figure, the kings became shyful.271.


ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਏਕ

Avaloki Su Bhrita Eeka ॥


ਗੁਨ ਮਧਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਅਨੇਕ

Guna Madhi Jaasu Aneka ॥

He saw an orderly, who had many qualities, even at midnight, he was standing at the gate


ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਠਾਂਢਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ

Adhi Raati Tthaandhi Duaari ॥


ਬਹੁ ਬਰਖ ਮੇਘ ਫੁਹਾਰ ॥੨੭੨॥

Bahu Barkh Megha Phuhaara ॥272॥

In this way, during the rainfall, he stood firmly without caring for the rain.272.

ਗੁਣਵੰਤ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਅਪਾਰ

ਨਿਜ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਹੰਤ ॥੨੭੩॥

Dutt saw that Vikram-like individual full of qualities at midnight and he also saw that it was greatly pleased in his mind.273.

ਸੋਵਰਨ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਜੈਸ

Sovarn Moorati Jaisa ॥

He seemed standing like a golden statue single-mindedly


ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ

Drirha Dekhi Taa Kee Mati ॥


ਅਤਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਰੀਝੇ ਦਤ ॥੨੭੪॥

Ati Manhi Reejhe Data ॥274॥

Seeing his concerntration, Dutt was greatly pleased in his mind. 274.


ਨਹੀ ਸੀਤ ਮਾਨਤ ਘਾਮ

Nahee Seet Maanta Ghaam ॥


ਨਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਲ੍ਯਾਵਤ ਛਾਮ

ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਮੋਰਤ ਅੰਗ

Nahee Naiku Morata Aanga ॥


ਇਕ ਪਾਇ ਠਾਂਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੫॥

Eika Paaei Tthaandha Abhaanga ॥275॥

He thought that this man was not caring for cold or hot weather and there is no desire of some shade in his mind he was standing on one foot without even slightly turning his limbs.275.


ਢਿਗ ਦਤ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਇ

Dhiga Data Taa Ke Jaaei ॥


ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਬਨਾਏ

Aviloki Taasu Banaaee ॥

Dutt went near him and looked down upon him, learning. a bit


ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਨਿਰਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ

Adhi Raatri Nrijan Taraasa ॥


ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਠਾਂਢ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੬॥

He was standing detachedly in that desolate atmosphere at midnighgt.276.

Barkhaanta Megha Mahaan ॥


ਭਾਜੰਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ

Bhaajaanta Bhoomi Nidhaan ॥

It was raining and the water was spreading on the earth


ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵ ਸਰਬ ਸੁ ਭਾਸ

Jagi Jeeva Sarab Su Bhaasa ॥


ਉਠਿ ਭਾਜ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੭॥

Autthi Bhaaja Taraasa Audaasa ॥277॥

All the beings of the world ran away in fear.277.

ਮਨ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪਤ ਗਉਰ

This orderly was standing at the gate of the king like this and was repeating the name of the goddess Gauri-Parvati in his mind

ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਠਾਂਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੮॥

He was standing on one foot, without even slightly turning his limbs.278.

A dreadful sword was shining in his hand like a flame of fire and

Jan Kaahoo Ko Nahee Mitar ॥


ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ॥੨੭੯॥

He was standing solemnly without seeming to have friendliness for anyone.279.

ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਸਾਧਤ ਦਾਉ

Bahu Bhaanti Saadhata Daau ॥

He was not even raising his foot slightly and he was in the posture of playing trick in many ways

Anaasa Bhoopti Bhagata ॥


ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਪਗਤ ॥੨੮੦॥

Parbha Eeka Hee Rasa Pagata ॥280॥

He was a devotee of the king dyed unswervingly in the love of the Lord.280.

ਸਭ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਨ ॥੨੮੧॥

Sabha Desa Desa Sidhaan ॥281॥

Because of heavy rain, all the animals and birds were going from various directions to their homes in order to take shelter.281.


ਇਹ ਠਾਂਢ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਆਸ

ਇਕ ਪਾਨ ਜਾਨ ਉਦਾਸ

ਅਤਿ ਤੇਜਵੰਤ ਅਖੰਡ ॥੨੮੨॥

Ati Tejavaanta Akhaanda ॥282॥

He was standing detachedly on one foot and taking his sword in one of his hands, he was looking extremely lustrous.282.


ਮਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵ

Mani Aani Ko Nahee Bhaava ॥


ਇਕ ਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਵ

Eika Dev Ko Chita Chaava ॥


ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਐਸੇ ਠਾਂਢ

Eika Paava Aaise Tthaandha ॥


ਰਨ ਖੰਭ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਗਾਡ ॥੨੮੩॥

Ran Khaanbha Jaanuka Gaada ॥283॥

There was no other idea in his mind except his master and he was standing on one foot like a column standing in the battlefield.283.


ਜਿਹ ਭੂਮਿ ਧਾਰਸ ਪਾਵ

Jih Bhoomi Dhaarasa Paava ॥


ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਚਾਵ

Nahee Naiku Pheri Auchaava ॥

Wherever he placed his foot, he firmly fixed it there


ਨਹੀ ਠਾਮ ਭੀਜਸ ਤਉਨ

Nahee Tthaam Bheejasa Tauna ॥


ਅਵਲੋਕ ਭਇਓ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਉਨ ॥੨੮੪॥

Avaloka Bhaeiao Muni Mauna ॥284॥

At his place, he was not getting wet and seeing him the sage Dutt kept silent.284.


ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਮੁਨੇਸ

Avaloki Taasu Munesa ॥


ਅਕਲੰਕ ਭਾਗਵਿ ਭੇਸ

Akalaanka Bhaagavi Bhesa ॥

The sage saw him and he seemed to him like a part of a blemishless moon


ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਰੀਆ ਪਾਇ

Guru Jaani Pareeaa Paaei ॥


ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਸਚਾਇ ॥੨੮੫॥

Taji Laaja Saaja Sachaaei ॥285॥

The sage abandoning his shyness and accepting him as his Guru, fell at his feet.285.


ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ

Tih Jaan Kai Gurdev ॥


ਅਕਲੰਕ ਦਤ ਅਭੇਵ

Akalaanka Data Abheva ॥


ਚਿਤ ਤਾਸ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਨ

ਗੁਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਉਦਸਮੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਨ ॥੨੮੬॥

Guru Tarudasamo Tih Keena ॥286॥

The blemishless Dutt, accepting him as his Guru, absorbed his mind in his love and in this way adopted him as the Thirteenth Guru.286.
