ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ॥

Man Bhoolo Bharamas Aae Jaae ||

The mind is deluded by doubt; it comes and goes in reincarnation.

ਅਤਿ ਲੁਬਧ ਲੁਭਾਨਉ ਬਿਖਮ ਮਾਇ ॥

Ath Lubadhh Lubhaano Bikham Maae ||

It is lured by the poisonous lure of Maya.

ਨਹ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਏਕ ਭਾਇ ॥

Neh Asathhir Dheesai Eaek Bhaae ||

It does not remain stable in the Love of the One Lord.

ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਸਮਝਸਿ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥

Man Bhoolo Samajhas Saach Naae ||

The deluded mind is instructed by the True Name.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਭਵਰ ਤਾਰ ॥

Man Bhoolo Bharamas Bhavar Thaar ||

The mind, deluded by doubt, buzzes around like a bumble bee.

ਬਿਲ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥

Bil Birathhae Chaahai Bahu Bikaar ||

The holes of the body are worthless, if the mind is filled with such great desire for corrupt passions.

ਮੈਗਲ ਜਿਉ ਫਾਸਸਿ ਕਾਮਹਾਰ ॥

Maigal Jio Faasas Kaamehaar ||

It is like the elephant, trapped by its own sexual desire.

ਕੜਿ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਸੀਸ ਮਾਰ ॥੨॥

Karr Bandhhan Baadhhiou Sees Maar ||2||

It is caught and held tight by the chains, and beaten on its head. ||2||

ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੌ ਦਾਦਰੁ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਨੁ ॥

Man Mugadhha Dhaadhar Bhagathiheen ||

The mind is like a foolish frog, without devotional worship.

ਦਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਸਟ ਸਰਾਪੀ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਨੁ ॥

Dhar Bhrasatt Saraapee Naam Been ||

It is cursed and condemned in the Court of the Lord, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਲੀਨ ॥

Thaa Kai Jaath N Paathee Naam Leen ||

He has no class or honor, and no one even mentions his name.

ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਸਖਾਈ ਗੁਣਹ ਬੀਨ ॥੩॥

Sabh Dhookh Sakhaaee Guneh Been ||3||

That person who lacks virtue - all of his pains and sorrows are his only companions. ||3||

ਮਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥

Man Chalai N Jaaee Thaak Raakh ||

His mind wanders out, and cannot be brought back or restrained.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਨ ਸਾਖੁ ॥

Bin Har Ras Raathae Path N Saakh ||

Without being imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord, it has no honor or credit.

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥

Thoo Aapae Surathaa Aap Raakh ||

You Yourself are the Listener, Lord, and You Yourself are our Protector.

ਧਰਿ ਧਾਰਣ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥

Dhhar Dhhaaran Dhaekhai Jaanai Aap ||4||

You are the Support of the earth; You Yourself behold and understand it. ||4||

ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

Aap Bhulaaeae Kis Keho Jaae ||

When You Yourself make me wander, unto whom can I complain?

ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਇ ॥

Gur Maelae Birathhaa Keho Maae ||

Meeting the Guru, I will tell Him of my pain, O my mother.

ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਉ ਗੁਣ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

Avagan Shhoddo Gun Kamaae ||

Abandoning my worthless demerits, now I practice virtue.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥

Gur Sabadhee Raathaa Sach Samaae ||5||

Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I am absorbed in the True Lord. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਇ ॥

Sathigur Miliai Math Ootham Hoe ||

Meeting with the True Guru, the intellect is elevated and exalted.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥

Man Niramal Houmai Kadtai Dhhoe ||

The mind becomes immaculate, and egotism is washed away.

ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

Sadhaa Mukath Bandhh N Sakai Koe ||

He is liberated forever, and no one can put him in bondage.

ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥

Sadhaa Naam Vakhaanai Aour N Koe ||6||

He chants the Naam forever, and nothing else. ||6||

ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

Man Har Kai Bhaanai Aavai Jaae ||

The mind comes and goes according to the Will of the Lord.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

Sabh Mehi Eaeko Kishh Kehan N Jaae ||

The One Lord is contained amongst all; nothing else can be said.

ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Sabh Hukamo Varathai Hukam Samaae ||

The Hukam of His Command pervades everywhere, and all merge in His Command.

ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

Dhookh Sookh Sabh This Rajaae ||7||

Pain and pleasure all come by His Will. ||7||

ਤੂ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੂਲੌ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

Thoo Abhul N Bhoola Kadhae Naahi ||

You are infallible; You never make mistakes.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਮਤਿ ਅਗਾਹਿ ॥

Gur Sabadh Sunaaeae Math Agaahi ||

Those who listen to the Word of the Guru's Shabad - their intellects become deep and profound.

ਤੂ ਮੋਟਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਬਦ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

Thoo Motto Thaakur Sabadh Maahi ||

You, O my Great Lord and Master, are contained in the Shabad.

ਮਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ॥੮॥੨॥
