ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਨੁ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਤੁ ਭਈ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਠਾਇ ॥
ਸਚ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਾਚਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਂਉ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਚੂਰੇ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਆਸ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
ਸਖਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥
ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥
ਭੇਖ ਵਰਨ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਹ ॥
ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:
Home and forest are the same, for one who dwells in the balance of intuitive peace and poise.
His evil-mindedness departs, and the Praises of God take its place.
To chant the True Name with one's mouth is the true ladder.
Serving the True Guru, one finds one's own place within the self. ||1||
To conquer the mind is the knowledge of the six Shaastras.
The Divine Light of the Lord God is perfectly pervading. ||1||Pause||
Excessive thirst for Maya makes people wear all sorts of religious robes.
The pain of corruption destroys the body's peace.
Sexual desire and anger steal the wealth of the self within.
But by abandoning duality, one is emancipated through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
In the Lord's Praise and adoration is intuitive peace, poise and bliss.
The Love of the Lord God is one's family and friends.
He Himself is the Doer, and He Himself is the Forgiver.
My body and mind belong to the Lord; my life is at His Command. ||3||
Falsehood and corruption cause terrible suffering.
All the religious robes and social classes look just like dust.
Whoever is born, continues to come and go.
O Nanak, only the Naam and the Lord's Command are eternal and everlasting. ||4||11||

nullnullnullnull(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਘਰ ਤੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਇੱਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਸ) ਸੱਚੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥nullਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥nullnullnullਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਬਾਹਰ ਜਗਤ-ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਲਈ) ਬਹੁਤ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਲਿਬਾਸ ਪਹਿਨੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਰਾ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾ-ਪਨ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥nullnullnull(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਿਆ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ, ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥nullnullnull(ਮਨ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਝੂਠ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਕਸ਼ਟ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਗਤ-ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਤੇ ਵਰਨ (ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਸਮਾਨ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੧੧॥
