ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਹਿ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਹੇ ॥
ਕਿਸੈ ਪੜਾਵਹਿ ਪੜਿ ਗੁਣਿ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਮਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੂਚੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
ਸੂਚੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
ਆਦਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
ਕਥਨੀ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੇ ਮੂਏ ॥
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ ॥
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੭॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:
Unto whom do they speak? Unto whom do they preach? Who understands? Let them understand themselves.
Who do they teach? Through study, they come to realize the Lord's Glorious Virtues. Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, they come to dwell in contentment. ||1||
Through the Guru's Teachings, realize that He is pervading in all bodies;
O my soul, vibrate on the Profound, Unfathomable Lord. ||1||Pause||
Loving devotion to the Lord brings endless waves of joy and delight.
One who dwells with the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day, is sanctified.
The birth into the world of the faithless cynic is totally useless.
The humble devotee of the Lord remains unattached. ||2||
The body which sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord is sanctified.
The soul remains conscious of the Lord, absorbed in His Love.
The Lord is the Infinite Primal Being, beyond the beyond, the priceless jewel.
My mind is totally content, imbued with my Beloved. ||3||
Those who speak and babble on and on, are truly dead.
God is not far away - O God, You are right here.
I have seen that the whole world is engrossed in Maya.
O Nanak, through the Guru's Teachings, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||17||

nullnull('ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ' ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਛਾ-ਪਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ), ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ('ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ' ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ-ਆਪ ਨਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਹ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ('ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ' ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਹੋਛਾ-ਪਨ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥nullਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਅਥਾਹ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥nullnullnullਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਉਠਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥nullnullnullਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹੀਰੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਮਨ, ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਸੀ, ਲਾਲ-ਸਮਾਨ ਅਮੋਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਠਰ੍ਹੰਮੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥nullnullnullਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)। (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੱਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥
