ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਦੇਹ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਹਰੇ ॥
ਸਰਬੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਰੂਪੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਸੁ ਬੁਰੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਮਿਲਣ ਨ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਰੀ ॥
ਸਖੀ ਸਾਜਨੀ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਧਰੀ ॥੨॥
ਆਪੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤੁਮ ਸਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਅਵਰੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੋਊ ਬਿਨਾਸਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਭਈ ॥
ਤੁਰੀਆਵਸਥਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਲਹੀ ॥੪॥
ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੫॥੨੨॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:
The clay pitcher of the body is miserable; it suffers in pain through birth and death.
How can this terrifying world-ocean be crossed over? Without the Lord - Guru, it cannot be crossed. ||1||
Without You, there is no other at all, O my Beloved; without you, there is no other at all.
You are in all colors and forms; he alone is forgiven, upon whom You bestow Your Glance of Grace. ||1||Pause||
Maya, my mother-in-law, is evil; she does not let me live in my own home. The vicious one does not let me meet with my Husband Lord.
I serve at the feet of my companions and friends; the Lord has showered me with His Mercy, through Guru's Grace. ||2||
Reflecting upon my self, and conquering my mind, I have seen that there is no other friend like You.
As You keep me, so do I live. You are the Giver of peace and pleasure. Whatever You do, comes to pass. ||3||
Hope and desire have both been dispelled; I have renounced my longing for the three qualities.
The Gurmukh obtains the state of ecstasy, taking to the Shelter of the Saints' Congregation. ||4||
All wisdom and meditation, all chanting and penance, come to one whose heart is filled with the Invisible, Inscrutable Lord.
O Nanak, one whose mind is imbued with the Lord's Name, finds the Guru's Teachings, and intuitively serves. ||5||22||

nullnull(ਨਿੱਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਿਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ) ਤੇ ਕੱਚੇ ਘੜੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਤੁਰਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੱਚੇ ਘੜੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੈ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ॥੧॥nullਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰਾ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਆਸਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥null(ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਇਹ ਭੈੜੀ ਸੱਸ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਬਾਹਰ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਭਜਾਈ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਇਹ ਚੰਦਰੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ। (ਇਸ ਚੰਦਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ), ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥nullਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਦੁਖ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸੁਖ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ; ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥nullਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ ਤੇ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਮਿਟਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈਏ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰੀਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੋਹ ਨ ਸਕੇ ॥੪॥nullਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਲੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਭੇਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਮਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨੨॥
