ਮਾਥੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੂਰਿ ॥
ਬੋਲੈ ਕਉੜਾ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਕੀ ਫੂੜਿ ॥
ਸਦਾ ਭੂਖੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਕ ਰਾਮਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
ਉਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੋਹਿਆ ॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਮੋਹਿਆ ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥
ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਨਾ ॥
ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੋ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਾ ॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਪਚੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਰਾਖਾ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੯੬॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
A frown creases her forehead, and her look is evil.
Her speech is bitter, and her tongue is rude.
She is always hungry, and she believes her Husband to be far away. ||1||
Such is Maya, the woman, which the One Lord has created.
She is devouring the whole world, but the Guru has saved me, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||Pause||
Administering her poisons, she has overcome the whole world.
She has bewitched Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Only those Gurmukhs who are attuned to the Naam are blessed. ||2||
Performing fasts, religious observances and atonements, the mortals have grown weary.
They wander over the entire planet, on pilgrimages to the banks of sacred rivers.
But they alone are saved, who seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||3||
Attached to Maya, the whole world is in bondage.
The foolish self-willed manmukhs are consumed by their egotism.
Taking me by the arm, Guru Nanak has saved me. ||4||2||96||

nullnullnull(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਊੜੀ (ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ) ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੌੜਾ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੀਭ ਦੀ ਖਰ੍ਹਵੀ ਹੈ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੜੱਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਭੁੱਖੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੜੱਪ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ) ॥੧॥nullਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਇਕ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ), ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥nullnull(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ) ਠਗਬੂਟੀ ਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਹੈ? ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥nullnull(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਲੋਕ) ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਨੇਮ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਕੇ ਤੇ (ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਲਈ) ਪਛੁਤਾਵੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਭਉਂ ਚੁਕੇ (ਪਰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਬਚ ਸਕੇ)। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥nullnull(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੯੬॥
