Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਸਬਦੌ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

Sabadha Hee Bhagath Jaapadhae Jinh Kee Baanee Sachee Hoe ||

Through the Word of the Shabad, the devotees are known; their words are true.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

Vichahu Aap Gaeiaa Naao Manniaa Sach Milaavaa Hoe ||1||

They eradicate ego from within themselves; they surrender to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and meet with the True One. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

Har Har Naam Jan Kee Path Hoe ||

Through the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, His humble servants obtain honor.

ਸਫਲੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Safal Thinhaa Kaa Janam Hai Thinh Maanai Sabh Koe ||1|| Rehaao ||

How blessed is their coming into the world! Everyone adores them. ||1||Pause||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

Houmai Maeraa Jaath Hai Ath Krodhh Abhimaan ||

Ego, self-centeredness, excessive anger and pride are the lot of mankind.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

Sabadh Marai Thaa Jaath Jaae Jothee Joth Milai Bhagavaan ||2||

If one dies in the Word of the Shabad, then he is rid of this, and his light is merged into the Light of the Lord God. ||2||

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

Pooraa Sathigur Bhaettiaa Safal Janam Hamaaraa ||

Meeting with the Perfect True Guru, my life has been blessed.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਰੇ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

Naam Navai Nidhh Paaeiaa Bharae Akhutt Bhanddaaraa ||3||

I have obtained the nine treasures of the Naam, and my storehouse is inexhaustible, filled to overflowing. ||3||

ਆਵਹਿ ਇਸੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

Aavehi Eis Raasee Kae Vaapaareeeae Jinhaa Naam Piaaraa ||

Those who love the Naam come as dealers in the merchandise of the Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥

Guramukh Hovai So Dhhan Paaeae Thinhaa Anthar Sabadh Veechaaraa ||4||

Those who become Gurmukh obtain this wealth; deep within, they contemplate the Shabad. ||4||

ਭਗਤੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥

Bhagathee Saar N Jaananhee Manamukh Ahankaaree ||

The egotistical, self-willed manmukhs do not appreciate the value of devotional worship.

ਧੁਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੫॥

Dhhurahu Aap Khuaaeian Jooai Baajee Haaree ||5||

The Primal Lord Himself has beguiled them; they lose their lives in the gamble. ||5||

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥

Bin Piaarai Bhagath N Hovee Naa Sukh Hoe Sareer ||

Without loving affection, devotional worship is not possible, and the body cannot be at peace.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਿ ॥੬॥

Praem Padhaarathh Paaeeai Gur Bhagathee Man Dhheer ||6||

The wealth of love is obtained from the Guru; through devotion, the mind becomes steady. ||6||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

Jis No Bhagath Karaaeae So Karae Gur Sabadh Veechaar ||

He alone performs devotional worship, whom the Lord so blesses; he contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੭॥

Hiradhai Eaeko Naam Vasai Houmai Dhubidhhaa Maar ||7||

The One Name abides in his heart, and he conquers his ego and duality. ||7||

ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਏਕੋੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥

Bhagathaa Kee Jath Path Eaekuo Naam Hai Aapae Leae Savaar ||

The One Name is the social status and honor of the devotees; the Lord Himself adorns them.

ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੮॥

Sadhaa Saranaaee This Kee Jio Bhaavai Thio Kaaraj Saar ||8||

They remain forever in the Protection of His Sanctuary. As it pleases His Will, He arranges their affairs. ||8||

ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਅਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਜਾਪੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

Bhagath Niraalee Alaah Dhee Jaapai Gur Veechaar ||

The worship of the Lord is unique - it is known only by reflecting upon the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੯॥੧੪॥੩੬॥

Naanak Naam Hiradhai Vasai Bhai Bhagathee Naam Savaar ||9||14||36||

O Nanak, one whose mind is filled with the Naam, through the Lord's Fear and devotion, is embellished with the Naam. ||9||14||36||
